EGAT aims for one-million-rai reforestation, inviting people to join tree planting trip
12 July 2022EGAT joined forces with Chachoengsao Province and partners to raise public awareness of natural conservation by organizing a green trip joined by the two well-known actors, Tutor and Jim. The trip of “EGAT’s one-million-rai reforestation, planting mangroves and building fish houses” persuaded the participants to restore mangrove forest to achieve the goal of one-million-rai reforestation and distribute income to the community.

On July 7, 2022, Mr. Nattapong Sa-nguanchit, Vice Governor of Chachoengsao Province; Mr. Jirasak Ouam U-rai, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Chachoengsao Office; Mr. Songrit Sinthavorn, President of Tourism Council of Chachoengsao Province; Mr. Jirathat Chaempaibool, President of Federation of Thai Industries Chachoengsao Chapter; Ms. Vasumon Netkijcharoen, President of Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association (TEATA); and Ms. Rutchadaporn Siangsanoh, Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations Division of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) held an activity “EGAT’s one-million-rai reforestation, planting mangroves and building fish houses.” Fifteen couples who were the trip participants traveled with the two actors, Tutor and Jim, to see Bang Pakong local way of life, do natural conservation activities at Bang Pakong Power Plant – Fish Houses and Crab Banks, and plant mangroves at the mangrove ecosystem learning center of Phra Pimol Senee School (Prom Hongsakul), Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province.

Vice Governor of Chachoengsao Province said that Chachoengsao Province has abundant natural resources and attractive tourist destinations, both in terms of agriculture and culture. To maintain the abundance and beauty of natural tourist attractions; the cooperation of many sectors, including the public to turn to low carbon and ecotourism, is needed. This reforestation activity can promote participation of every sector in increasing forest areas to capture CO2 and improve the environment in the long term.
Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations Division, EGAT added that the activity aims to raise the young generation’s awareness of environmental conservation. For example, they have learned how to tackle air quality problems, such as traveling with EV and using natural products. CO2 offset by this activity can be compared to planting 150 mangroves. Moreover, this mangrove reforestation activity focuses on the correct means of tree planting and tree survival so that the trees can grow up to be the habitat of aquatic animals.
This activity is a part of EGAT’s Participatory One-Million-Rai Reforestation Project which aims to reforest an area of one million rai within 10 years and maintain the trees for another 9 years to absorb 1.2 million tons of CO2 per year or 23.6 million tons for the whole duration of the project, in response to Thailand’s Carbon Neutrality by 2050. EGAT’s reforestation project started in 1994 and today it can cover an area of 460,000 rai in 51 provinces of Thailand.
