Thailand Post – EGAT join hands to test ‘EGAT E-Bike’ advancing toward green postal service of the future

30 August 2022

EGAT joined with Thailand Post to reveal the successful test results of EGAT E-Bike under the brand ‘ENGY’ that delivered packages and products of Thailand Post. The EGAT E-Bikes were proved to be easy to drive, highly flexible, and suitable for urban commuting. EGAT is preparing to expand the E-Bikes to other Thailand Post branches to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Thailand’s transport sector, moving toward the carbon neutrality goal.

Mr. Prateep Srimongkol, Assistant Manager of Thailand Post Office – Lak Si Branch, Thailand Post Co., Ltd., delivered the summary report of the two EGAT E-Bikes under the brand ‘ENGY’ by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) that were used to deliver products and packages in the area of Lak Si District, Bangkok. The test results revealed that the postmen were 80-90% satisfied with the E-Bikes, which showed capabilities in acceleration rate, speed, driving flexibility, and distance per charge or per battery swap, meeting the demands of the drivers and gaining their trust. Further collaborations in the future will yield many benefits, especially in the environmental aspect due to electric vehicles (EVs) not releasing pollution, which will reduce fuel cost for the organizations as well as move toward Thailand’s carbon neutrality goal.

Mr. Somsak Prangthong – EGAT Assistant Director of Demand Side Management and Social Affairs Division said that EGAT has promoted the use of EVs continuously by collaborating with entrepreneurs who have participated in the Energy Efficiency Label No.5 E-Bike Project in order to develop EGAT E-Bikes under the brand ‘ENGY.’ The E-Bikes were designed to be highly capable and efficient, easy to drive, and flexible. They can drive with the fastest speed of not more than 80 km per hour, which is safe and suitable for city limits. The battery was designed with a concern on the distance requirement for motorcycle taxi drivers and parcel delivery services and can drive a distance of over 95 km per single charge. In addition to being able to charge at home, the E-Bikes support immediate battery swapping; no need to waste time for charging because only two minutes are needed per battery swap. Moreover, the electricity price for using electricity instead of oil is only an average of 13 Satang per km.

Promoting the use of EGAT E-Bikes in delivering packages for Thailand Post will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and PM2.5 in the country’s transport industry. The goal is to expand the E-Bikes to other branches of Thailand Post and create an eco-friendly EV ecosystem to support the country’s automobile industry and move toward green energy, sustainably.
