23 September 2022

Green Leaf Foundation and EGAT join hands to develop the No.5 Hotel Project with 30 pilot hotels nationwide to promote and raise standards of eco-friendly hotels, in line with the goal of Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions.

On September 16, 2022, Dr. Tanawan Sintunawa, Vice President and Secretary General of the Green Leaf Foundation, and Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), signed a Memorandum of Understanding on No. 5 Hotel Project to develop energy efficiency and environmental quality of hotels, leading to sustainable energy management standards. On this occasion, the executives of both parties attended the signing ceremony held at EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Vice President and Secretary General of the Green Leaf Foundation said that the foundation has carried out the Green Leaf Program by setting criteria for environmental conservation. This collaboration with EGAT will raise the standard of sustainable hotel management. The foundation will assess the No. 5 hotels in terms of human resources (HR) and renewable energy deployment in 4 aspects, i.e. policy and operation, HR development, and public relations on energy conservation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. The project plans to start with 30 pilot hotels and will be expanded to 50 hotels per year in 2023-2025.

EGAT Governor revealed that EGAT has promoted energy efficiency projects in all sectors since 1994, including No.5 Energy-saving Label and No.5 House and Building. In 2022, EGAT initiates the No.5 Hotel Project under collaboration with the Green Leaf Foundation to increase energy efficiency in the hotel sector and develop related criteria for evaluation. EGAT will offer No.5 energy-saving labels to certified hotels and promote energy and environment conservation knowledge to hotel personnel, driving the hotel sector to achieve Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions.
