Royal Thai Navy – EGAT open first EleX by EGAT at Nantha Utthayan Palace to reduce global warming

28 September 2022

Royal Thai Navy and EGAT joined hands to open the first EleX by EGAT charging station at the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, Nantha Utthayan Palace, Bangkok, to drive EV transition in government areas extensively and achieve Thailand’s carbon neutrality.

On September 27, 2022, Admiral Somprasong Nilsamai, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy; Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); supervisors; and the executives of both parties attended the opening ceremony of the first EleX by EGAT charging station at the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, Nantha Utthayan Palace, Bangkok.

Admiral Somprasong Nilsamai, Royal Thai Navy Commander-in-Chief said that the Royal Thai Navy plans to change their departmental vehicles from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs). The collaboration between EGAT and the Naval Logistics Department of the Royal Thai Navy to install EV charging stations at Nantha Utthayan Palace is an important step in the history of the Royal Thai Navy as it supports the government’s policy to achieve carbon neutrality and target of EV production to reach 30% of Thailand’s total auto manufacturing by 2030.

This EV charging station will help promote interest in EVs among the Royal Thai Navy forces, leading to widespread use of EVs in the future. Initially, the Royal Thai Navy aims to install two EV charging stations: Nantha Utthayan Palace and Thonburi Palace (The Old Palace), by means of welfare for the Royal Thai Navy forces in order to pilot suitable models for other areas of the Royal Thai Navy.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor said that the Royal Thai Navy and EGAT have had a long-lasting relationship, especially working together to create power system security in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. This collaboration to install the EV charging station will support the country’s main mission, help reduce air pollution from internal combustion engines, and build confidence for the Royal Thai Navy forces to use more EVs.

The EleX by EGAT charging station at Nantha Utthayan Palace is the second charging station located in a government area. The station has two 22-kW AC chargers of normal charging speed, which can charge both plug-in hybrids and battery EVs. Currently, EGAT has opened EleX by EGAT stations and EleXA network partner stations totaling 78 stations nationwide and aims to reach over 120 stations by the end of 2022 to cover all travel routes in Thailand.
