Mr. Chatchawan Chayabutr, Lampang Governor and Mr. Charan Khumngeon, EGAT Deputy Governor – Generation jointly performed the opening ceremony which was also attended by Mr. Weerawat Chalayon, former EGAT Governer; Mr. Charasrut Chantarasurin, Member of the House of Representatives – Lampang 3; EGAT executives; government and private agencies; and the public at the multipurpose yard, Mae Moh Public Relations Building, EGAT Mae Moh, Lampang Province.

A total of 3,901 runners who joined the race was categorized into 21 km half marathon (1,156 persons), 10 km mini marathon (1,395 persons), and 5 km fun run (1,350 persons). The event highlights included the new route that meets the standards of Athletics Association of Thailand together with full road closure for the runners’ safety, service standard control, as well as first aid and medical readiness which made the route certified by World Athletics. Presently, Thailand has only six running routes certified by international standards. Moreover, this new route allowed the runners to experience a closer view of Mae Moh Mine and Power Plant, the power generating source of the northern region.

The Mae Moh Half Marathon has been organized every year since 1992. Not only does the event represent the finish line, new records, new winners, and trophies but also happiness, wealth, and public contribution under the concept “RUN for All.” The income after expense deduction will be sent to Lampang Development and Relief Fund for public charity such as school building construction, academic scholarship, and public facility development. Moreover, with runners and tourists visiting the area, the economy of Lampang Province and Mae Moh District, including tourism, accommodations, restaurants, and community products, has been recovered.
