MOE and EGAT kick off “EV GO Trip Pid Deal” for EV test drive on four routes and build confidence in charging stations nationwide

9 November 2022

Ministry of Energy and EGAT launched a road trip campaign to create new experiences from EV test drive on four routes, Hua Hin – Sattahip – Srinagarind Dam – Khao Yai, under the activity “EV GO Trip Pid Deal” to showcase the capabilities of EVs and EleX by EGAT charging stations nationwide, as well as carry out the idea of “Sarb Lawe Plean (Realize then Change)” to build confidence in EV transition.

On November 8, 2022, the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) held a press conference for the activity “EV GO Trip Pid Deal” under the campaign “Sarb Lawe Plean (Realize then Change)” to invite Thais to experience something new through a sensible and safe EV road trip and build their confidence in EV transition. The event was joined by Prof. Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, Secretary to the Minister of Energy; Mr. Somboon Norkaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy; Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor; and eight car manufacturing brands, namely Audi, BMW, GWM, Mercedes-Benz, MG, NETA, NISSAN, and VOLVO at the ENGY Patio, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Somboon Norkaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, revealed that the world is responsive to the trend of using energy innovation in place of conventional energy to mitigate climate change. For Thailand, the National EV Promotion Policy Committee issued the 30@30 policy to drive Thailand toward low carbon society. The goal is to manufacture zero emission vehicles (ZEV) at least 30% of the total automotive manufacturing by 2030. This year, the government issued measures to encourage EV transition, such as giving financial support and tax deduction for EV purchases. The Ministry of Energy made preparations in the electricity generation and transmission aspects by installing a network of fast-charging EV charging stations nationwide to assure the public and drive EV transition faster than the goal set in 2030.

Prof. Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, Secretary to the Minister of Energy, as President of the Sustainable Energy Consumption Working Committee, added that the Ministry of Energy has established a committee on driving awareness of energy conservation to promote practical energy-saving behaviors through the campaign “Sarb Lawe Plean (Realize then Change),” such as inviting allies to organize new activities, beginning with EGAT’s “EV GO Trip Pid Deal.”

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT Governor said, “EGAT is supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065; therefore, promoting EV transition will help reduce one third of greenhouse gas emissions compared to oil-burning engines. EGAT is quickly installing EleX by EGAT charging stations to cover the main routes in every region. Currently, there are EGAT charging stations that are open for service together with the network of EleXA partners totaling 80 stations nationwide. EGAT aims to expand the charging stations to more than 100 stations by the end of 2022. Additionally, EGAT developed “EleXA,” a mobile application platform that improves the EV users’ experience, including locating stations, displaying status, booking, paying, etc. EGAT also joined with four other charging operators to display their status in real time to reaffirm the people’s confidence in EV transition. EGAT kicked off the activity “EV GO Trip Pid Deal” with the support of various car manufacturing brands under the Ministry of Energy’s campaign “Sarb Lawe Plean (Realize then Change)” to invite those interested in experiencing EV test drive with sensibility and safety, as well as testing the mobile application and charging stations on the four routes, i.e., Hua Hin, Sattahip, Srinagarind Dam, and Khao Yai. Moreover, participants will partake in green CSR activities to help create a low carbon society with EGAT’s One-Million-Rai Reforestation Project. The road trip will begin from November 21 – December 2, 2022.”
