The EVAT x EGAT Electric Motorcycle Conversion Contest for Business Opportunity will be held for the second time to compete for the first-place trophy from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and cash prize totaling over 450,000 Baht. The competition will be held during May 5-7, 2023 at Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus in Chon Buri Province (waiting for official approval).

Mr. Krisda Utamote, President of EVAT said “EVAT recognizes the importance of developing personnel in the area of electric vehicles (EVs) in Thailand as the amount of EV users has more than doubled in numbers. Personnel must be developed to be skilled to support new job opportunities relating to EV industry. As for the 2nd EVAT x EGAT Electric Motorcycle Conversion Contest for Business Opportunity, 73 teams in total signed up for the competition: 58 teams in the educational institution category and 15 teams in the general public category. EVAT is grateful for the cooperation from various agencies, such as EGAT, for organizing training programs on EV-related topics as well as the rules of the competition.”

Mr. Somsak Prangthong, EGAT Director of Demand Side Management and Social Affairs Division revealed “EGAT has a mission to drive carbon neutrality in line with the government policy. The EV promotion measure is one of the measures to conserve energy in the transportation sector to drive Thailand toward becoming a global manufacturing base for EVs and EV components. The goal is to manufacture at least 30% Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) in 2030. The 2nd EVAT x EGAT Electric Motorcycle Conversion Contest for Business Opportunity, which EGAT has supported continuously for two years, is an opportunity to create awareness for students and demonstrate EGAT’s potential in manufacturing converted EVs according to engineering principles and safety measures. The event is beneficial to develop EV technologies in the future and create a business model for Thailand’s EV industry, leading to the development of Circular Economy and BCG business model.”

EGAT has supported the deployment of EVs and EV charging stations since 2016, as well as the promotion of electric motorcycles. The electric motorcycle was developed until it received the Energy Efficiency Label No.5 in 2019 and has continued to develop further. It is also used as motorcycle taxis in the area around EGAT, Bang Kruai District, to reduce pollution and PM2.5 for a better environment and health for the people.
