KBank, EGAT, and KBTG team up to develop “Punfai” application for power exchange trial in third quarter

31 March 2023

KBank, EGAT, and KBTG collaborate in creating a green society by developing the “Punfai” application, the first platform to exchange electric power which covers all dimensions of usage, supporting the use of the public and private sectors, driving Thailand toward Net Zero Emissions, and promoting clean energy deployment to Thais. It is expected to start a trial in this third quarter and will be further developed for the public use in the future.

Mr. Nutthavutthi Chamchang, Senior Deputy Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), said that this cooperation is a further step of EGAT Peer to Peer Energy Trading (EGAT P2P) application by participating in the Solar Plus Project of Kasikornbank (KBank). This new simple-to-use application, Punfai, will respond to the power demand of the public and private sectors. In addition to power generation and transmission, EGAT offers new power solutions to meet the demand of power users in the digital era, coupled with developing power management innovations and supporting clean power accessibility in the country.

Mr. Krit Jitjang, President of KBank, said that as global warming is affecting living and business operations, KBank determines to support a green society creation in Thailand under the concept “GO GREEN Together,” to drive Thailand toward Net Zero Emissions. Lately, KBank and allied have carried out projects, including financial campaigns to make the customer easily accessible to clean energy. This collaboration is another project that allows KBank to be an application developer of “Punfai” together with EGAT, a piece of the jigsaw to support the green ecosystem of Thailand. KBank is ready to provide its knowledge, resources, personnel, and experience in technology for this application development, connecting with financial innovation to meet the users’ needs in all dimensions.

Mr. Chetphan Siridanuphat, Managing Director, Kasikorn Business-Technology Group (KBTG), revealed that supporting a green energy society for sustainability is a vital mission of KBTG. The company is ready to apply its expertise in technology and design to develop user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) for “Punfai” application to make it easy to use.

The “Punfai” application is a platform managing power generated from solar panels and allows users to share surplus electricity for a good return in order to reduce electricity cost, resulting in a shorter payback period from the investment in solar rooftop installation and maximum use of generated electricity, in line with the national policy on carbon footprint reduction. Its features include smart energy management, energy sharing and donation among users and organizations, and data summary.

The application is under development and expected for a trail under ERC Sandbox with SolarPlus and EGAT projects in the third quarter of this year to create a full-service green ecosystem for Thais in the future.
