Rajjaprabha Dam

Background

Rajjaprabha Dam, formerly known as “Cheow Lan Dam”, is the second multipurpose dam of the South. The dam is located in Surat Thani Province. After the construction was completed, the dam was renamed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great “Rajjaprabha Dam” meaning “Light of the Kingdom”.

The construction of the dam began on February 9, 1982 and was completed in September 1987. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, performed the inauguration of the dam and its hydropower plant on September 30, 1987.

Rajjaprabha Dam is an essential water resources development project in the South that enhances the His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and the Ceremonial Rajamangala in 1987 which is a great honor for EGAT and the people of Surat Thani Province.
