Nan Province, EGAT, and partners launch “Nan Light Up & Smart City” to promote green tourism through LED technology and EV ecosystem

Nan Province collaborated with EGAT and partners to launch the project “Nan Light Up & Smart City.” The project aims to illuminate four tourist attractions in Nan Province with LED lighting system, promote environmentally-friendly transportation through Smart Mobility solutions, and install EleX by EGAT charging stations, paving the way for Nan to become a smart city and supporting green tourism.

On August 11, 2023 in the morning, Mr. Wiboon Waewbandit, Governor of Nan Province presided over the opening ceremony of the first EleX by EGAT charging station of Nan Province. Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Mr. Chanchai Limsuwan, President of Tourism Council of Nan Province; and Mr. Cherdchoo Tengtrirat, an executive of Huen Hung Tor also attended the ceremony at Krua Por Pla. This charging station is comprised of a 125 kW DC Fast Charge with two charging connectors. In the evening, Governor of Nan Province, Governor of EGAT, and the partners joined the opening ceremony of “Nan Light Up & Smart City” which promoted the tourism festival on the Mother’s Day held during August 11-14, 2023 at Khuang Mueang Nan, Nan Province.

Mr. Wiboon Waewbandit, Governor of Nan Province stated that the province has a policy to promote tourism as a primary source of income, thereby boosting local economy. To promote Nan Province with distinctive culture, nature, and unique identity to become a leading destination for both Thai and international tourists, the project of “Nan Smart City” will create benefits. It includes renovation of the medium-sized temples and Plumeria Tree Arch in Nan National Museum to be the important landmarks, contributing to income for the community. Moreover, the use of electric vehicles which are environmentally-friendly is promoted for Nan Province to become a pollution-free city.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of EGAT said that “Nan Smart City” aims to promote energy efficiency, which is in accordance with EGAT Carbon Neutrality policy, through the installation of high-quality lighting system at four cultural tourist attractions, namely Wat Sri Panthon, Wat Ming Muang, Wat Suan Tan, and Plumeria Tree Arch in Nan National Museum. The lighting system can be remotely controlled through the application. Moreover, the use of EVs in public transportation, comprising two electric tricycles, three electric trams with management and control system, and four charging stations is promoted to support sustainable tourism, boost local economy, and build confidence for EV users.
