EGAT aims for Carbon Neutrality at SETA 2023 and Solar+Storage Asia 2023

18 August 2023

EGAT gave updates on clean energy trends at SETA 2023 and Solar+Storage Asia 2023 along with energy experts around the world aiming to propel Thailand to achieve Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions as well as presented EGAT’s Triple S Strategy which strives to use technology and innovation to drive eco-friendly electricity generation.

On Augst 17, 2023, Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor – Strategy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 Sustainable Energy Technology Asia (SETA 2023) and Solar+Storage Asia 2023 held during August 17-18, 2023 under the concept “Driving Asia’s Energy Transition Pathways to Carbon Neutrality” in order to propel Thailand toward Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions. Over 100 experts from the energy and clean technology industry worldwide expressed their vision and exchanged in-depth energy insights covering many important topics during the event held at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, EGAT Deputy Governor – Strategy, revealed that in the midst of the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, EGAT has set policies on eco-friendly electricity generation and aimed to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality by 2050 with the Triple S Strategy, namely 1) Sources Transformation: Increasing the proportion of renewable energy in electricity generation, improving power plants and the power system with modern technology to become more flexible, and developing energy storage systems, such as pumped-storage hydropower plant, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and Hydrogen Energy Storage System (HESS), 2) Sink Co-creation: Increasing carbon absorption by joining forces with allies to reforest 1 million rai of trees by 2031 and studying Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology for utilization in power plants,  3) Support Measures Mechanism: Supporting projects that offset and avoid carbon dioxide emissions concretely, such as the new Energy-Efficiency Label No.5 which is more efficient, promotion of electric vehicles, and Green Learning Room Project in order to promote efficient use of resources and drive Thailand toward a sustainable future.

Moreover, at the Power & Energy Award 2023 ceremony, an international award reflecting the success of businesses and persons that push for energy innovations, EGAT received the Energy Revolution Award while Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, EGAT Deputy Governor – Strategy, received the Energy Leadership Executive of the Year Award.

Additionally, EGAT participated in seminars with energy leaders covering various topics, e.g. Utilities Panel: Opportunities and Challenges for Asian Grid Integration, Storage Panel: Scaling up and Growing the Energy Storage in ASEAN, Floating Solar: ASEAN Spotlight and Lesson Learned, How to Scale up the Hydrogen Market and Build up Value Chain Players Based on the Opportunities and Challenges, Expanding Grid Flexibility: Opportunities for Growth and Investment, Powering Sustainable Growth: Circular Economy Solutions for Thailand’s Energy Landscape, How to Leverage Micro Mobility for Low Carbon Solutions in the Large Cities and Case Study.
