EGAT won the excellence award in the category of Energy Conservation (EE Creative Building – New and Existing Building) at the Thailand Energy Awards 2022 for the “EGAT 50th Anniversary Building” reflecting its determination to be a part of sustainable energy conservation while moving toward Thailand’s goal of Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions.

On October 20, 2023, Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy chaired the Thailand Energy Awards 2022 awarding ceremony held by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency to honor organizations with outstanding achievements in energy conservation and alternative energy development. Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Governor – Power Business and Acting Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), as EGAT’s representative, received the excellence award in the category of Energy Conservation (EE Creative Building – New and Existing Building) for the “EGAT 50th Anniversary Building” reflecting its determination to be a part of supporting sustainable energy conservation while moving toward Thailand’s goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Net Zero Emissions by 2065.

The EGAT 50th Anniversary Building is a 20-storey office building designed to be a model for energy conservation while taking into consideration eco-friendliness in accordance to the Energy and Environmental Sustainability Assessment standard. It has a universal design with the concept of EGAT for ALL: EGAT Belongs to Everyone and Works for Everyone. The shape of the building is curved like an oval to reduce surface area and heat transfer as well as reduce air leakage into the building. The air conditioning system also conserves energy by using a cooling beam system which enables a 30% reduction in energy consumption compared to general energy conservation buildings. Moreover, the lightening system combines natural light and high-efficient LEDs along with light and motion sensors; therefore, the energy usage is only 8.9 W/m2, which is lower than the Building Energy Code standard (14 W/m2). There are also solar rooftops installed with the capacity of 50.49 kW.

Additionally, the design makes use of other resources economically, such as treating waste water from sinks and bathroom floors to be used in toilets and having a retention pond to store water from the drainage system and rainfall for watering plants, resulting in a complete and efficient energy and resource management.

Previously, the EGAT 50th Anniversary Building was the winner of the ASEAN Energy Awards 2022 held by the ASEAN Centre for Energy. The building received the Energy Conservation Building Label and the 2020 Excellence Trophy in accordance to the Building Energy Code standard of the Ministry of Energy. The building also received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard from the United States of America in the New Building Category at the Platinum level, which is the highest assessment for the construction of an energy conservation building.
