Moreover, EGAT gives importance to good governance and corporate social responsibility, while creating shared value with stakeholders, such as the development of Mae Moh Smart City in Lampang Province.

According to Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP) 2018-2037 (Rev. 1) and the draft PDP2024, Mae Moh Power Plant will start to decrease its generation capacity in 2026 and will be decommissioned in 2048. Therefore, EGAT has policies to sustainably enhance the quality of life for the local community by promoting community participation in order to develop Mae Moh into a low-carbon economic city through Mae Moh City Data Platform, which is equipped with the necessary information to achieve Net Zero Emissions. The development will proceed under the 3 Smart concept, namely 1) Smart Energy, such as promoting the planting of forage grass to increase green areas, purchasing agricultural biomass waste for processing into energy pellets, and implementing Energy Management System (EMS) to promote the use of solar power in Mae Moh District, 2) Smart Economy, such as vertical farming project, organic agriculture project, as well as Tourism Empowerment, e.g. Mae Moh Half Marathon, Promotion of tourism in Ban Dong Sub-district project, and 3) Smart Environment, such as expanding green spaces using economic bamboo, increasing the value of organic waste through black soldier fly larvae, and developing the City Data Platform which monitors the air quality and environmental data in Mae Moh. The main goal is to develop Mae Moh District into a low-carbon economic city for the sustainable growth and happiness of the community.
