27 June 2025EGAT and Dhara Consultants opened a forum to listen to the opinions of the people of Kanchanaburi Province on the Srinagarind Dam Floating Solar Project 1, providing an opportunity for the public to express their opinions and concerns to help improve the assessment report.

On June 24, 2025, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Dhara Consultants Co., Ltd. held a public hearing to gather opinions from stakeholders on the Srinagarind Dam Floating Solar Project 1 in order to prepare the Code of Practice and Environmental and Safety Assessment reports. Mr. Tarat Luangsaard, Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, presided over the meeting and Mr. Saritchai Pongsaisopon, EGAT Director of Srinagarind Hydro Power Plant, provided information about the project. The meeting was joined by locals, government agencies, private organizations, educational institutions totaling over 260 persons at the Community Hall, Moo 5, Ban Plai Dinso, Si Sawat District, Kanchanaburi Province.

Mr. Tarat Luangsaard, Deputy Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, said that Kanchanaburi is rich in natural resources and has potential for clean electricity generation, both hydropower and solar power. This floating solar project is suitable for the development of the province and country and promotes clean energy by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the source of global warming. Moreover, this power plant will be a learning center for renewable energy, create job and income opportunities, raise the community quality of life through the Power Development Fund, as well as enhance energy security in the region.

Mr. Saritchai Pongsaisopon, EGAT Director of Srinagarind Hydro Power Plant, added that the Srinagarind Dam Floating Solar Project 1 is part of Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2018-2037, Revision 1, (PDP2018 Rev.1). The project has a total capacity of 140 MW and generates electricity from floating solar panels installed on the surface of EGAT’s reservoir, reducing the use of land, which can be used for other purposes, such as agriculture. Additionally, it utilizes the dam’s existing transmission system and reduces reliance on imported electricity. It also supports Thailand’s expanding economy and increasing electricity demands, driving Thailand toward Carbon Neutrality. The project is scheduled for commercial operation in 2027.

The meeting was an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to participate in the study and preparation of the reports. Environmental experts from Dhara Consultants gave a presentation on the details of the project, environmental impact assessment, as well as measures for preventing, correcting, and monitoring environmental impacts. Stakeholders were also able to express their opinions and concerns to help improve the assessment report.
