Kang Krachan Dam

Background

Being the first earth dam of the country, Kang Krachan Dam was built across Khao Mai Ruak and Khao Chao. The construction started in 1961 and completed in 1966. The opening was inaugurated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on May 22, 1966.

The installation of the electricity generator was carried out by EGAT. The construction of the power plant started in November 1971 and completed for power generation in August 1974. After the long operation, the power plant was closed for renovation in November 2008 and reopened for operation with improved efficiency in May 2010.
