4,000 runners worldwide join 32nd Mae Moh Half Marathon, North’s first world-standard running course for two consecutive years
20 October 2025Over 4,000 runners from around the world joined the “32nd Mae Moh Half Marathon,” smashing last year’s record by more than 50%. The half marathon course is the first in the northern region to be certified by the World Athletics’ Road Race Label for the second consecutive year, proving its international standards. “Pareeya Sonsem” won first prize for the Overall 21.1 km (Female) for the third year running, receiving the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy, and “Anucha Pada” broke the course record and won first prize for the Overall 21.1 km (Male) for the second year running.


On October 19, 2025, Lampang Province, Lampang Provincial Administrative Organization, Lampang Chamber of Commerce, Thai Mass Participation Sports Trade Association, and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) organized a running competition in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, the 32nd Mae Moh Half Marathon 2025, to win the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy. Mr. Wiboon Waewbandit, Governor of Lampang Province, and Mrs. Tawiwan Danwilai, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel, jointly presided over the opening ceremony which was attended by the general public at EGAT Mae Moh, Mae Moh District, Lampang Province.

Mr. Wiboon Waewbandit, Governor of Lampang Province, revealed that the Mae Moh Half Marathon is considered the biggest running competition of Lampang Province and the northern region and is popular among Thai and foreign runners. The event is in tribute to the 93rd birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother to win the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Trophy, which will help stimulate the economy, create circular income, and promote sports tourism for Lampang Province.

Mr. Suchart Tunkaew, EGAT Assistant Governor – Mae Moh Mine, added that the 32nd Mae Moh Half Marathon was joined by both Thais and foreigners with 3,971 runners participating in the race which comprised three categories: 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10 km Mini Marathon, and 5 km Fun Run. After the half marathon course was certified for the second consecutive year by the World Athletics’ Road Race Label, the number of runners increased by 50%. During the competition, the roads were fully closed and equipped with facilities comparable to the standards of global races. The course also passes through the beautiful scenery surrounded by limestone mountains and comes close to Huai Pet Reservoir, Mae Kham Reservoir, Mae Moh Mine, and Mae Moh Power Plant, providing new viewpoints for sports tourism.
