7 July 2026

Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Energy, and Mr. Shinichi Kihara, Director-General for Energy and Environmental Policy, witnessed the Joint Ceremony of the Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between Thai and Japanese parties during the 8th Japan-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue (8th JTEPD). Held in Tokyo, Japan, the 8th JTEPD was organized to exchange perspectives on energy policies and discuss approaches to advancing energy cooperation between Thailand and Japan, as well as explore opportunities for energy trade and investment. The MOU signing ceremony on June 29, 2026 was attended by Mr. Siriwat Chedsi, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy, together with Ms. Yumiko Yao, Chief Executive Officer, Tokyo Gas Asia, and Mr. Toshihiro Oki, Head of Platform Business Group, Platform Business Division, JERA.

EGAT has signed the MOU with Tokyo Gas Asia to study the development and utilization of low-carbon fuels in Thailand, covering hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives from renewable energy and other suitable energy sources, as well as the efficient use of natural gas during the energy transition. In addition, EGAT has signed the MOU with JERA to study and develop cooperation across Thailand’s hydrogen and ammonia value chain, including production, supply, transportation, storage, and utilization, especially on the use of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier and a clean fuel for power generation. The collaborations between EGAT and Japanese partners will accelerate the clean energy transition and support the country’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
