EGAT completes “VPP” testing for future power system
1 October 2026EGAT is advancing Thai power system through its successful testing of a “VPP” that connects the DRCC with the ENZY Platform, enabling automatic dispatch of DERs, increasing the resilience and stability of new power system, and supporting the Smart Grid policy.

Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, Deputy Governor – Power Business of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that EGAT has successfully tested energy connection and automated dispatch through a “Virtual Power Plant” (VPP). The test connected the Demand Response Control Center (DRCC) with the ENZY Platform, a smart energy management platform developed by EGAT. The platform enables Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to be managed and controlled to operate together automatically, enhancing efficient responses to the needs of the power system.

The test focused on the integration and dispatch of three energy resources to operate together automatically. These include Demand Response (DR) for adjusting or managing electricity consumption in buildings and factories, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for storing and supplying energy to maintain the power system’s balance, and solar power generation, a renewable energy source that can be appropriately managed together with other energy resources.
When the DRCC sends an order to the ENZY Platform, the system processes data based on local energy resources before automatically dispatching equipment according to predefined conditions. For example, when electricity demand is high, the ENZY Platform can reduce non-essential electricity consumption while simultaneously supplying energy from batteries and managing energy from solar power to rapidly and accurately reduce the load on the main power system. When electricity demand is low, the ENZY Platform can manage the system to store energy in batteries for use at an appropriate time, enabling DERs across different areas to operate together and respond to orders from the DRCC, as a single virtual power plant.

The success of this test reflects EGAT’s readiness to develop energy infrastructure and an energy ecosystem to advance toward a Smart Grid, supporting growing renewable energy, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles. These developments will enhance flexibility in power system management, accommodate the fluctuation of renewable energy, and create opportunities for electricity users, buildings, factories, and DER owners to participate in strengthening energy security and moving Thailand toward Net Zero Emissions sustainably.
