Apart from the main mission of electricity generation, EGAT gives importance to social responsibility such as taking care of the community around its power plants, giving scholarships to the youth, promoting local occupations, as well as joining the community in keeping local tradition and protecting natural resources. An example is the ritual of showing gratitude to the rivers which is believed to be protected by the spirits (Phi Fai) who generate fertility and abundance for the farmers by offering sacrifice to the spirits. EGAT’s CSR activities are based on the principle of “Wherever EGAT is, the community will live with sustainable happiness.”
