EGAT’s Team of Black Tiger of Forest Fire Fighters
The volunteer team of forest firefighters was formed in 1996 when Bhumibol Dam had the policy of promoting forest conservation under the Project of Reforestation in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol.
In 2007, the training of forest firefighters was organized for community participation such as at Baan Ta Pui Tok community and other nearby communities to take care of natural forests. Many activities were carried out under the work plan of forest fire fighting, creating a firebreak, building check dams, trees planting in the rainy season including organizing traditional and local rituals to increase the fertility of the forest such as forest ordination, forest life renewal, offering feast for forest guardian spirit, etc.
Presently, there are 20 volunteers in the team of “Black Tiger Team of Forest Fire Fighters” comprising EGAT’s Forest Protection Unit, local government agencies, Sub-district Administrative Organization, and headman. The team assigns responsibility to members for each area while EGAT Bhumibol Dam is responsible for forest fire survey.
Therefore, EGAT is responsible for, not only electricity generation to maintain the security of the power system of the country, but also the development of quality of life, community, society, and environment. EGAT’s Team of Black Tiger Forest Fire Fighters is one behind the scene of voluntary service which has taken care of environment at their best effort for the benefit of Thai society.
