Sirikit Dam
Background

Sirikit Dam is a multipurpose dam with several benefits including water management, agriculture, and flood prevention. Moreover, the reservoir facilitates waterway transport to the area inaccessible by roads and makes traveling from the area above the dam to Nan Province possible all year round. Moreover, it serves as an important tourist spot in Uttaradit Province which attracts a lot of tourists every year.
Sirikit Dam is included in the Nan River Basin Development Project. The construction started in 1968 and was completed in 1972. Formerly known as “Pha Som Dam,” with the permission of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the name of the dam was changed to Sirikit Dam after Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother on May 24, 1968.
On March 4, 1977, the opening ceremony of the dam was performed by Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
