Being a project in the Lower Kwai Yai Development Plan, Tha Thung Na Dam supports the power generation of Srinagarind Dam in making a reuse of water from electricity generation. Moreover, it contributes to the progress of rural development acceleration policy of the government.

The reservoir of Tha Thung Na Dam serves as a lower reservoir to control the amount of water and solve the problem of higher water level of Kwai Yai River, resulting from water released from Srinagarind Dam. Thus, Tha Thung Na Dam helps increase efficiency of water management for irrigation and planting in the dry season. Moreover, the dam serves as a fish breeding source and recreational place for the public.
