Background

Wang Noi Power Plant was an urgent project to support the increasing industrial estates in the lower Central region. The Cabinet approved the construction of Wang Noi Combined Cycle Power Plant Bocks 1-3 on October 5, 1993. On September 6, 1994, the Cabinet acknowledged the approval of environmental process. After the construction of the power plant, the 3 blocks were able to supply electricity to EGAT power system in 1997 and 1998 respectively.

As the demand for electricity in the Central region has increased according to the rapid economic and industrial growth of the country, EGAT had to seek for more power sources to strengthen security of the power system. According to the Power Development Plan – PDP 2010, Wang Noi Power Plant, Block 4 would be constructed at the original site to support the increasing demand for electricity in the Central part. The Cabinet gave approval on February 22, 2011 to the construction of Wang Noi Power Plant, Block 4. After the construction, the Power Plant, Block 4 could supply electricity to the system in May 2014.
