EGAT’s invitation to submit bids for Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Ubol Ratana Dam

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) would like to invite bidders to submit sealed bids for Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Ubol Ratana Dam with the output of 24 MW. to drive Thailand towards the carbon neutrality goal. The project combines electricity generation from solar energy and hydropower, along with an energy storage system to enhance the system stability and constant power output.
Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that after the achievement of Sirindhorn Dam Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project, EGAT is now ready for the sale of bidding documents for Ubol Ratana Dam Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project with the generating capacity of 24 MW. This project will be equipped with a battery energy storage system (BESS) to enhance efficiency and continuity of power generation.
The Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Ubol Ratana Dam is included in the Thailand Power Development Plan B.E. 2561-2580, Revision 1 (PDP2018 Rev.1) that specifies development of hydro-floating solar hybrid projects with a total capacity of 2,725 MW. Ubol Ratana Dam Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project will comprise an energy storage system with high-quality battery to store excess power used to supplement the generation system when this hybrid system switches from using solar power to hydropower or vice versa. Therefore, power generation from renewable energy will be stable, efficient, and smooth; reducing constraints on renewable energy and supporting the government’s policy to achieve net zero carbon emissions. The project is scheduled to start commercial operation in 2023.
The bidding documents are available for purchase from January 4 – February 15, 2022.
Bids will be opened on March 9, 2022.
