EGAT joins World Expo 2020 Dubai and showcases advanced innovations on a global stage
EGAT showcased its potential with three outstanding achievements under ‘EGAT Smart Energy Solutions’ at the World Expo 2020 Dubai during Energy & Environment Week between February 20 – March 8, 2022 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
On February 21, 2022, Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Governor – Strategy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) joined the opening ceremony of EGAT’s exhibition at the World Expo 2020 Dubai, where 192 countries participated in the exhibition of the future. On this occasion, Mr. Chairat Sirivat, Consul General of Thailand to Dubai and entourage also joined the opening ceremony.
Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum revealed that EGAT was proud to represent Thailand and show its potential as a top energy organization that builds power security and develops sustainable energy by promoting research, inventions, and innovations continuously to help reduce greenhouse gas, a cause of climate change. EGAT also aims to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality within 2050 by quickly developing human resources and operation processes in preparation for the transition towards ‘Green Energy.’ On this occasion, EGAT is ready to assure the counties participating in the World Expo 2020 Dubai of Thailand’s standpoint and readiness to drive the world towards a new modern and eco-friendly era and also showcase EGAT’s potential on the global stage.
Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum added that EGAT’s exhibition under the concept ‘EGAT Smart Energy Solutions’ showcased EGAT Group as a whole, which is comprised of the Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO), RATCH Group Public Company Limited (RATCH), EGAT International Company Limited (EGATi), and INNOPOWER Company Limited, to indicate technology advancement and service design that support the demands of the global energy industry with three outstanding achievements as follows:
- Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a platform for renewable energy credit purchase and certification for companies in Thailand. EGAT is now the sole issuer of I-RECs in Thailand. EGAT showcased the ‘REX Platform’ using a time-based REC mechanism to deliver electricity generated from renewable energy according to the real-time hourly demand of the user, in response to the world’s increasing demand for clean energy. EGAT also presented the ‘24/7 REC Pilot Project’ which tests the delivery of time-based REC, comprising data collection of renewable energy generation and the project participant’s demand, in order to make a real-time hourly matching and test communication systems with I-REC Registry so that the REC delivery will meet the standards of the Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC), REC Issuance, and automatic REC Redemption.
- Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Power Plant showcases EGAT’s latest success. The world’s largest 45-MW Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid at Sirindhorn Dam, Ubon Ratchathani Province began commercial operation on October 31, 2021. EGAT plans to carry out 15 more projects of Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid in EGAT’s main dams nationwide, with a total generating capacity of 2,725 MW. EGAT also developed the Hybrid-EMS (Hybrid-Energy Management System) which controls the two renewable energy power plants in order to generate and supply electricity according to power potential with highest efficiency, lower the uncertainty of renewable energy, generate electricity continuously for a longer period, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) by around 47,000 tons per year.
- EGAT Business Solutions showcase two projects under the EGAT Smart Energy Project as follows:
- ERC Sandbox is a project of which EGAT received approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to promote new energy business models and test energy technologies in a real-life environment with the TU EGAT Energy Project, Si Saeng Tham Model Project, and ENGY Energy is Yours Project.
- ENZY or ENZY Platform provides a platform for people who want to use energy efficiently and monitor energy usage, along with an affordable price for all businesses. The equipment is stable, easy to install, low cost, and gives energy usage advice to both the heating and cooling sectors of the industry. The project has been piloted at Pinthong Industrial Estate 3 in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
