EGAT promotes BCG Economy: Bang Kruai Green Community Model for Low Carbon Society

4 August 2022

EGAT has promoted Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy, renewable energy, and electric power innovation through Bang Kruai Green Community Model to build a low carbon society.

On August 3, 2022, Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) joined the seminar of “TBCSD Using Research to Promote BCG Economy for Low Carbon Society” under the topic “Thai Business Sector and Promotion of Bio-Circular-Green Economy,” an event of Thailand Research Expo 2022 held on August 1-5, 2022 at the 22nd – 23rd Floors, Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok.

Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit said that EGAT has placed importance on sustainable development by promoting the use of renewable energy and energy conservation to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality in 2050, which will mobilize Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy in every dimension with a concern on the balance between electricity generation cost, environmental impact, and electricity system security.

Recently, EGAT has revised the fuel management plan by reducing the dependence on fossil fuel and increasing the share of renewable energy together with integrating innovations of renewable energy to generate electricity with stability, such as Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid projects and grid modernization which includes Digital Substation, Demand-Response, and RE Forecast. EGAT has also proceeded with research on “Future Technology” and clean energy, such as plasma fusion, hydrogen, and SCO2.

Moreover, EGAT has joined forces with a network of partners to absorb carbon dioxide through the Participatory One-Million-Rai Reforestation Project during 10 years or from 2022 to 2031. Meanwhile, Support Measures Mechanism has been implemented to avoid and offset CO2 emissions yielding tangible results by 2030 to help reduce CO2 of 5,627 kilotons and save energy of 17,406 GWh per year. The mechanism is comprised of 1) Energy Efficiency Promotion, such as No.5 Energy-Saving Label and Energy Solution Service Platform, 2) Change of fuel types by promoting electric vehicles and EV ecosystem, and 3) BCG Economy Model through Bang Kruai Green Community with the concept of “Smarter, Greener, and Together” to apply electricity technology and innovation to a community in Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province, which aims to improve the quality of life of the community.

“EGAT will promote research and studies for the benefits of EGAT’s operation to drive BCG Economy and achieve a low carbon society. At the same time, EGAT applies BCG principles for internal energy resource management to become a “Circular Economy Organization,” leading to the economic growth of the country in the long term and environmental restoration,” said Mr. Boonyanit Wongrukmit.
