Now open! Mae Hong Son and EGAT invite you to learn about smart grid at EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong, a new provincial tourist destination

Be enchanted by the identity of Mae Hong Son Province and experience a clean energy world that is stable with the smart grid energy management system at EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong that is now open.

On August 25, 2023, Mae Hong Son Province and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) officially opened the EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong. Mr. Somchai Leelanoi, Deputy Governor of Mae Hong Son Province chaired the opening ceremony and Mr. Chatchai Mawong, EGAT Assistant Governor – Power Plant Engineering and Construction, government agencies, and community leaders attended the ceremony at EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong in Mueang District, Mae Hong Son Province.

Mr. Somchai Leelanoi, Deputy Governor of Mae Hong Son Province revealed that EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong is considered a new tourist destination of Mae Hong Son Province. It’s a place for learning about smart grid, energy management, and clean electricity generation through the identity and arts and culture of the people of Mae Hong Son Province. The Center is also a part of driving the province toward green tourism while preserving Mae Hong Son’s identity in terms of nature, arts and culture, and community lifestyle, coupled with the use of energy technology to help improve local quality of life.

Mr. Chatchai Mawong, EGAT Assistant Governor – Power Plant Engineering and Construction added that the Smart Grid Development Pilot Project in Mae Hong Son Province aims to demonstrate, research, and develop smart grid at the national and ASEAN levels in order to enhance power system security of the province, become a model city on sustainable energy efficiency, and promote green tourism under the 4 Smart Strategy, namely Smart System: develop a stable management system for local electricity generation sources, Smart Energy: create a clean electricity generation source, Smart City: promote green tourism by supporting the use of electric vehicles, and Smart Learning: build a clean energy learning center that is eco-friendly for the community and society as well as include stories about the way of life, arts and culture, and beautiful traditions of the people of Mae Hong Son Province.

This Center is considered EGAT’s eighth learning center and will become a new tourist attraction for children and the public to enjoy learning about energy. It also passed the Trees-NC standard at the gold level by the Thai Green Building Institute for every stage, from design to construction. The Center takes into consideration energy and environmental conservation and quality of life of building users. The building structure looks like a rock placed in the middle of a valley, blending into Mae Hong Son’s nature. EGAT Learning Center – Pha Bong is open from Tuesday – Sunday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, and is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
