EGAT launches new Label No.5 with Stars to conserve more energy and reduce GHG; join this golden opportunity to buy energy-efficient products
22 September 2023EGAT invited Thais to celebrate the success of 30 Years of DSM and launched the new and higher-standard Energy-saving Label No.5 with Stars, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote circular economy, and achieve national carbon neutrality as well as invited Thais to buy Label No.5 products at a special price from today until September 24, 2023, at Hall 9, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani.

On September 20, 2023, Mr. Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy chaired the opening ceremony of 30 Years of DSM: Demand Side Management. Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor – Strategy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and over 500 entrepreneurs attended the event, showing their determination to conserve energy and mitigate global warming at Hall 9, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, gave a special speech on the topic of “Demand Side Management and the Future Direction of Thai Energy.” He stated that because Thailand is moving toward clean energy transition, the Ministry of Energy has established the framework for the National Energy Plan to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050 which aims to increase electricity generation from renewable energy by more than 50%, promote electrical vehicle usage, and increase energy efficiency. The goals are to reduce energy intensity by 30% and create participation in all sectors through mandatory strategy (e.g., Energy Efficiency Resources Standards: EERS, transportation tax measure), promotion strategy (e.g., equipment exchanges and high-efficient technology promotion measure, investment in energy efficiency promotion measure), and support strategy (e.g., development of technology and innovation support measure, development of energy conservation personnel support measure). Meanwhile, EGAT’s DSM created participation from various sectors in helping with energy conservation, leading to massive national energy conservation which will help enhance the competitiveness and investment of entrepreneurs in Thailand in the future.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, EGAT Deputy Governor – Strategy, revealed that EGAT aims to develop innovations and technologies to support sustainable energy use, including promotion of energy efficiency, energy conservation mindset, and concrete greenhouse gas reduction in the public sector in order to achieve Carbon Neutrality of Thailand. During the past 30 years of implementing DSM through the 3Es strategy (energy-saving equipment, building, and habit) covering energy users in the household, business, and industry sectors of over 40 projects, EGAT could reduce energy usage by more than 35,600 million units, or around 178,000 million baht, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 19.7 MtCO2.

On the occasion of 30 Years of DSM, EGAT launched a new Energy-saving Label No.5 with Stars raising the standard of energy efficiency coupled with taking care of the environment. The official usage of the new label will start on January 1, 2024 as follows:
- Increase of efficiency ratings from 1-3 stars to 1-5 stars to expand the options for high-efficient electrical equipment and save more energy
- Display of amount of CO2 reduction throughout the usage period so users can participate in global warming mitigation by choosing Label No. 5 electrical equipment
- Addition of eco-friendly production symbol (Circular Economy) to extend the function of Label No.5 from the buying decision process to the entire life cycle of the product
- Addition of QR code to share information to more consumers, such as product manual, installation, and maintenance, as well as other useful news and information.

Moreover, EGAT launched the Label No.5 School Project to encourage schools to integrate energy and environmental conservation knowledge into every activity by passing four activities, namely 1) Green School, 2) Low Carbon School, 3) Low Carbon School Community, and 4) No.5 Energy Efficiency Building in Educational Institutions. Currently, there are over 4 million students and 1,300 network schools under the Green Classroom Project.

The highlights of the event include Label No.5 products at a special price from over 60 entrepreneurs, special promotional activity “30 Years of DSM, 30 Golden Minutes,” activity of product purchase of 500 baht for a chance to win a lucky draw prize every day and a grand prize on the last day (September 24, 2023 at 5 pm), activity to promote the use of high-efficient LED light bulbs by exchanging 100 sets of old light bulbs for new ones (September 20-22, 2023), and a mini-concert from “Rose Sirintip” and a cooking show from Chef “In Narongrit” (September 23-24, 2023 from 10 am – 8 pm) held at Hall 9, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani.
