EGAT stands by Thais assisting flood victims, while EGAT big dams can store more water

6 October 2023

EGAT stands by Thai people to overcome flood crisis by providing survival bags, managing water resources according to the policy of National Water Command, and closely monitoring water situation.

Mr. Charan Khumngeon, Deputy Governor – Generation of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) said that EGAT has closely monitored water management and flood situations downstream of EGAT’s dams as well as providing full assistance to the communities. As of October 4, 2023, the total water volume in all reservoirs was 42,700 million cubic meters or 69% of the dam capacity, while the usable water volume was 19,655 million cubic meters or 51% of the dam capacity. However, there are three dams with significant water volumes: Ubol Ratana Dam in Khon Kaen Province, Nam Pung Dam in Sakon Nakhon Province, and Huai Kum Dam in Chaiyaphum Province which have been closely monitored. EGAT has also collaborated with related agencies to manage water resources to alleviate the difficulties faced by people in flood-affected areas.

EGAT’s big dams, Bhumibol Dam in Tak Province, Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit Province, as well as Srinagarind Dam and Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi Province, still have water storage capacity available. Bhumibol Dam and Sirikit Dam have adjusted water release plan to reduce impacts on the communities in the downstream area and to store the water for use during the next dry season. The public can check the water situations via the website http://water.egat.co.th/ or the applications: EGAT Water and EGAT One.

Recently, EGAT has delivered 1,300 survival bags and 78,000 bottles of drinking water to flood victims in Sukhothai Province, Tak Province, and Uttaradit Province. Moreover, EGAT has provided support with machinery and six-wheel sand trucks to build barriers to prevent flood in the affected areas.
