EGAT replicates Khok Nong Na Model at the heart of Nan city to maintain and support sustainable life

The Ministry of Energy, Nan Province, and EGAT organized the World Soil Day event between December 2-4 featuring a replication of the Khok Nong Na Model, the longest salad bar, a splendid menu from master chefs, an incredibly special ride on the electric tram to observe the beauty of Nan temples, and mini concerts throughout the three-day event held at Nan City Night Market, Nan Province.

On December 2, 2023, the Ministry of Energy, Nan Province, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) organized the World Soil Day event between December 2-4, 2023, under the concept of “Soil and Water: a Source of Life” in honor of King Rama IX and King Rama X for their contributions to soil resource conservation and development and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. The event also aims to promote water, food, and energy security according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Dr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy presided over the opening ceremony and was joined by Mr. Kritpetch Petcharaburanin, Nan Deputy Governor; Dr. Wiwat Salyakamthorn, Founder of the Agri-Nature Foundation and President of the World Soil Association; and Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Acting Governor of EGAT, at Nan City Night Market, Nan Province.

Dr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, said that the Ministry of Energy aims to apply King Rama IX’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy as the development concept to create revenue for local community with the people at the center while responding to the royal wish of King Rama X to “continue, preserve, and build upon” the royal duties of His Majesty’s father for the prosperity of the country and the well-being of the people.

Mr. Kritpetch Petcharaburanin, Nan Deputy Governor, added that Nan Province has been collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and EGAT on social, community, environmental activities for over 30 years since 1994 to sustainably enhance the livelihood, occupation, and revenue of the community. This World Soil Day event is one of the important activities that showcase the successful cooperation between all networks and sectors.

Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Acting Governor of EGAT, emphasized EGAT’s determination to maintain energy security coupled with taking care of the society, community, and environment. EGAT has carried out the New Khok Nong Na Model Project for sustainable society development through the memorandum of understanding with Agri-Nature Foundation to use the seven royally-named dams and three power plants of EGAT to be models for operation and locations for developing skills, sharing knowledge, developing the people according to the royal initiative and local wisdom, and passing on the economy philosophy toward agri-nature compliance on the restoration of the soil, water, and forest, in order to strengthen the community to be self-reliant, create jobs and revenue, and decrease expenses resulting in the economic development in households and communities.

The activities during the three-day event included an exhibition in honor of His Majesty the King, a showcase of the achievements of the Agri-Nature network (seven royally-named dams and three power plants), a replication of the Khok Nong Na Model, a showcase of the CSR success of Nan Province such as the Participatory One-Million-Rai Reforestation Project, a showcase of food products “Farm to Table” by master chefs, the longest salad bar ever, mini concerts by popular artists such as Fon Tanasoontorn, ETC, and Ploy from The Golden Song, as well as a special ride on the electric tram to observe the beauty of Nan city and its temples under the Nan Light Up Project. Moreover, EGAT deployed a Wan Kaew mobile unit at Wat Phaya Phum in Mueang Nan District, Nan Province to help monks with eyesight problems.
