EGAT and Metlink signed CA to study Cryogenic Carbon Capture technology

EGAT and Metlink joined hands to sign a CA on Information Exchange on Cryogenic Carbon Capture Technology, aiming at applying it with EGAT power plants and mitigating Global Warming.

On March 20, 2024, Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and Mr. Prapan Asvaplungprohm, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Metlink Info Co., Ltd. (Metlink), entered into the Confidentiality Agreement (CA) on Information Exchange on Cryogenic Carbon Capture (CCC) Technology. On this occasion, Mr. Chatchai Mawong, EGAT Assistant Governor – Power Plant Engineering and Construction, and Mr. Nipon Limboonsuebsai, Metlink General Manager, were the witnesses in the signing ceremony, held at EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy, said that this collaboration marks a vital step to broaden the knowledge on carbon emissions reduction with the CCC, an interesting technology, to be applied with EGAT power plants in the future. This initiative plays a part of the implementations under EGAT Triple S Strategy – S Sink by means of “Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS),” to achieve EGAT Carbon Neutrality within 2050.

Mr. Prapan Asvaplungprohm, Metlink Director and Chief Executive Officer, revealed that this collaboration will contribute to the achievement of CCUS with the low-cost initiative by applying the alternative CCC technology, which is now being developed for using in the power plants. The technology ensures cost competitiveness and provides nearly 100% pure carbon dioxide captured that has the potential to be utilized in other industries such as food and beverage and medical applications.
