EGAT showcases Climate Action and environmental excellence, inspiring collective efforts toward Thailand’s Net Zero Emissions goal

8 June 2026

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), in collaboration with public and private agencies, organized the Environment Day 2026 event under the theme “EGAT Climate Action,” which aligns with the United Nations’ World Environment Day 2026 concept, “A Global Call for Climate Action.” The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Narin Phoawanich, EGAT Governor, at the EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters in Nonthaburi Province on June 4, 2026.

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026 (June 5, 2026), Mr. Narin Phoawanich, EGAT Governor, reaffirmed EGAT’s commitment to advancing energy security coupled with environmental responsibility, guided by the principle that energy and environmental sustainability must progress together. Over the past 57 years, EGAT has continuously prioritized the development of clean technologies, efficient use of resources, and collaboration with all sectors to conserve natural resources and protect the environment. This commitment reflects EGAT’s determination to create a balance between energy security, quality of life, and environmental stewardship in order to face the growing challenges from climate change.

EGAT’s environmental stewardship is driven by the advancement of energy knowledge, technology, and innovation, combined with systematic environmental management, to support the transition toward a low-carbon society and a sustainable future for Thailand. Key initiatives include increasing the share of renewable energy, managing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting the Circular Economy, reducing and utilizing waste, conserving and restoring biodiversity, and developing future energy technologies to support the energy transition and contribute to the country’s Net Zero Emissions goal. Examples of these efforts include floating solar projects, study of hydrogen fuel technology, feasibility studies and preparatory work for Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, and the development of EV Solutions and the EV ecosystem. At the same time, EGAT encourages participation of its employees, local communities, and partner networks in natural resource conservation and environmental protection.

“EGAT is ready to play a role in addressing climate change and supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050,” said Mr. Narin Phoawanich, EGAT Governor.

The event featured the “Climate Action Talk” session, which brought together experts from various fields to exchange knowledge and perspectives on climate change. The speakers included Prof. Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, EGAT Board Member and Associate Dean for Sustainability and Social Engagement, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University; Mr. Sivach Kaewcharoen, Director of the Climate Change Mitigation Division, Department of Climate Change and Environment; Dr. Wit Sittivaekin, host of the 8 Minute History podcast; Dr. Seree Supratid, Vice President of the National Disaster Warning Council Foundation; and Dr. Kotchakorn Voraakhom, a landscape architect and expert in climate-resilient urban design. The discussion focused on lessons learned from climate change and explored ways to drive meaningful Climate Action across all sectors. In addition, the “EGAT Climate Action” exhibition showcased EGAT’s initiatives and contributions to climate change mitigation. The “Share and Care” activity and environmental workshops also provided participants with opportunities to learn about and contribute to reducing environmental impacts through Circular Economy principles and efficient resource utilization, helping to build a sustainable future for future generations.
