Social Projects

EGAT places an emphasis on the meticulous designing of appropriate social projects and action plans to meet the needs of stakeholders in communities in the vicinity of EGAT’s power plants and along the transmission line routes. Our primary goal for these social projects is to mitigate possible impacts from our electricity generating operations both during the construction and throughout their operating phase.

Participatory One-Million-Rai Reforestation

In cooperation with the allies, EGAT continues to implement its participative reforestation project which is a long-term project of 10 years (2022-2031). The target of the project is to plant new forests covering an area of averagely 100,000 rai per year and taking care of the trees for 9 years further with community engagement. It is estimated that the project will contribute to carbon dioxide adsorption of averagely 1.2 million ton per year or 4% of the greenhouse gas emissions of EGAT per year. In 2022, EGAT promoted the reforestation in an area of 97,199 rai and promoted an increase of forest area and integrated restoration area of totally 6,309 rai.

Khok Nong Na Model

In an attempt to develop and restore natural resources and environment based on the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy in the river basins which are associated with EGAT dams and power plants, namely Ping river basin, Nan river basin, Chao Phraya river basin, Mae Klong river basin, Bang Pakong river basin, Chi river basin, and Mun river basin, EGAT has established ten Sufficiency Economy Study and Development Centers at seven dams with royal names and three power plants. The Centers are located at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Srinagarind Dam, Bhumibol Dam, Sirikit Dam, Sirindhorn Dam, Chulabhorn Dam, Ubol Ratana Dam, Mae Moh Power Plant, Bang Pakong Power Plant, and Wang Noi Power Plant. The Centers serve as communitylearning centers for the new agricultural theory “Khok Nong Na Model” to strengthen the community and enhance sustainable security of food, water, and energy.

In 2022, EGAT conducted a training course in agricultural development toward Sufficiency Economy to the youth, people, communities, and networks in the area before further expanding to other river basins countrywide. The number of participants attending the training course was 1,484 persons among which 201 persons (13.89%) had further developed the knowledge obtained from the training.

Moreover, EGAT has developed the model community for EGAT Biological Way of Life based on Sufficiency Economy to be a registered community enterprise so that the community’s members can have stable income with productivity complying with the market standard (Organic Agriculture Standard) and produce safe food. The community’s quality of life will be upgraded leading to sustainable development. In 2022, three communities were evaluated and supported to be registered as community enterprises, namely Ban Non Kok Organic Agriculture Community Enterprise, Khon Kaen Province; Ban Bo Kaew Organic Agriculture Community Enterprise, Phrae Province; and Ban Phai Kho Don Organic Agriculture Community Enterprise, Moo 6, Phitsanulok Province.

Young Volunteers Project

Recognizing the importance of the new generation as the hope of the country, based on the King Rama IX’s Philosophy, “Understand, Access, Develop,” and the sufficiency economy philosophy, EGAT has implemented projects in the form of Sufficiency Economy Camp for 12 consecutive years. The objective of the project is to promote creativeness and voluntary spirit of the youth by trying to develop innovations for use in the community and instilling leadership with dedicated spirit and public mind.
