Srinagarind Dam

Background

Srinagarind Dam is the first multipurpose dam of the Mae Klong River Basin Development Project constructed for many benefits and strengthen Mae Klong Yai Irrigation Project to have more efficiency.

          

Mae Klong Dam of the Royal Irrigation Department can regulate water to agricultural land all year round covering the areas of 4 million rai. The dam can discharge water to dispel the intrusion of salt water which has caused damages in the areas of the mouth of Mae Klong River in the dry season. The dam is beneficial to fishery, flood protection and tourism.

Srinagaind Dam is one of the beautiful tourist attractions in Kanchanaburi Province which provides knowledge and enjoyment to over 100,000 visitors a year. Tourism in the Kanchanaburi has been expanded and very popular such as rafting in the reservoir of Srinagarind Dam.

The construction of Srinagarind Dam started in 1973 and was completed in 1980. His Majesty King Bhumibol granted the name Srinagarind to the dam. On 15 June 1981, His Majesty King Bhumibol accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, performed the opening ceremony of the dam.
