EGAT – Ajinomoto promote electricity from renewable energy to meet Thailand’s GHG reduction policy and move towards Carbon Neutrality

EGAT and Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. fully promoted the green energy business market through the use of renewable energy to help reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions and move towards Carbon Neutrality.

On April 19, 2022, Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, EGAT Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), as the representative of EGAT, and Mr. Ichiro Sakakura, President of Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., signed an agreement to promote the use and access of renewable energy through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) totaling 160,000 RECs, in the signing ceremony held at the EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano revealed that EGAT is focusing on Thailand’s policy to promote electricity generation from renewable energy and develop mechanisms to make the use of clean energy accessible to those interested, through using RECs from EGAT’s renewable power plants. The presentation of RECs to Ajinomoto shows the determination to promote generation and utilization of electricity from renewable energy that is eco-friendly in order to awaken the green energy business and help solve climate change as well as respond to the country’s greenhouse gas reduction policy. Mr. Ichiro Sakakura said that Ajinomoto is a leading global company that specializes in food and health products. The company gives importance to taking care of the environment and sustainably conserving the world’s natural resources. The Ajinomoto Groups worldwide announced their intention to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and their goal of 97% greenhouse gas reduction in the organization by 2025 and 100% by 2030. The support from EGAT’s RECs will help the company achieve its goals through Thailand’s production base which has been certified to use renewable energy in all operations, as well as help Thailand achieve its target of 20-25% greenhouse gas reduction by 2030.
