EGAT announces the sale of bidding documents for Srinagarind Dam and Rajjaprabha Dam Hydropower Plant Renovation Projects, to replace the existing generators with high-efficiency ones and promote electricity generation from renewable energy to achieve the Carbon Neutrality goal.

Mr. Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that EGAT has launched the sale of bidding documents for the renovation projects of Srinagarind Dam Hydropower Plant, Units 4-5 with the total capacity of 360 MW in Kanchanaburi Province and Rajjaprabha Dam Hydropower Plant, Units 1-3 with the total capacity of 240 MW in Surat Thani Province. The projects aim to increase efficiency of power generation and extend lifetime of the power plants. The bidding documents are available for purchase from May 18 – June 20, 2022. Bids of renovation projects of Rajjaprabha Dam Hydropower Plant, Units 1-3 and Srinagarind Dam Hydropower Plant, Units 4-5 will be opened on July 25, 2022 and July 26, 2022, respectively.

These renovation projects aim to improve and upgrade the generators and components as well as extend the lifetime for at least 30 years. Moreover, the 4th and 5th units of Srinagarind Dam Hydropower Plant that apply pumped-storage technology can pump the water back to be stored as the reserve energy called Energy Storage System (ESS). The Rajjaprabha Dam Hydropower Plant Renovation Project, Units 1-3, is scheduled for commercial operation in 2025-2027, while the Srinagarind Dam Hydropower Plant Renovation Project, Units 4-5, is scheduled for commercial operation in 2026-2027.
