4 Years of EGAT EV Business Solutions to Advance the EV Ecosystem and Build a Sustainable Future

23 April 2025

Who would have thought that back in 2019, when there were only 1,572 electric vehicles, within just 6 years, the number would increase to an astounding 227,490 in total? What had convinced the people to pay millions of Baht to buy electric vehicles (EVs), despite having many concerns? Would there be enough charging stations when traveling far away to other provinces? Would anyone be willing to invest in EV charging stations? And if there were only a few charging stations, would users have to fight for an available charging slot? Investors in the EV industry had united to solve these problems, resulting in EV sales skyrocketing. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) was one of the first players in the EV industry to develop “EGAT EV Business Solutions” to provide a one-stop service which includes EleX by EGAT charging station, EleXA application, and BackEN EV charging station management system in order to build confidence among EV users as well as build an EV ecosystem in Thailand.

Increasing the Number of “Stable, Fast, Reliable” Charging Stations across the Nation

Since the first EleX by EGAT charging station opened in Nakhon Ratchasima Province in 2021, EGAT has joined with partners to boost the rapid growth of EleX by EGAT in order to facilitate EV users. Currently, there are over 300 EleX by EGAT charging stations nationwide (as of March 2025), and the goal is to add more than 60 stations by the end of the year to support the fast-growing EV market in Thailand. EleX by EGAT is also popular among EV users who agree that it is “stable, fast, reliable.” The station supports both AC and DC fast charging with a maximum power output of 150 kW and charging time of only 20-30 minutes. Each station is designed and installed according to the safety standards of EGAT that has had over 55 years of experience in electricity generation, further reassuring EV users of its quality and safety.

EleXA Boosts Confidence among EV Users to Travel Anywhere without Limits

Apart from EV charging stations, applications are also necessary to help facilitate EV users. EleX by EGAT, coupled with the EleXA application, makes charging convenient and efficient. EGAT developed EleXA to be an assistant for EV users and to boost their confidence. The application offers features such as locating nearby stations, checking the availability status and reserving charging slots, or creating a trip plan before traveling to identify the location of charging stations along the route. As for payment, EleXA has been developed continuously and can now support up to 4 payment methods, including credit cards, QR code, SCB Easy, and MaxMe Wallet. And for every payment of 10 Baht, users will receive 1 EleXA point which can be redeemed for charging discounts or other special offers with partners. If users encounter any problems, customer service is available 24/7 to give advice. Currently, the application has over 200,000 users.

EleXA propels the EV society to the next level by connecting EV users with partner stations across the country. Users can see the location and status of all the stations via EleXA. Moreover, EleXA’s user experience and user interface (UX/UI) are being developed to be more convenient and user-friendly, adding a queuing feature as well.

BackEN EV Platform Helps Manage Charging Stations Professionally

Besides the EleXA application, EGAT also helps connect businesses with investors to make owning charging stations easy as well as professional through BackEN EV, a platform for managing charging stations. BackEN EV can monitor and control the stations in real time as well as manage energy and maintenance of equipment efficiently. For hotels, restaurants, or companies that provide chargers for their guests or staff, any brand of charger can be managed via BackEN EV; meanwhile, EV users can access the stations easily via the EleXA application, making it convenient for both station owners and users.

For organizational customers, BackEN EV can manage the payment through charging credits and collect the fees afterwards. The platform is also being developed to support charging via RFID for easier and more convenient management. Other various services were also added, such as the ability to set the price based on the time periods or according to the station owner’s specified conditions.
