“Energy-saving house,” new solution towards low-carbon society

EGAT teams up with four organizations to sign an MOU on the promotion of energy conservation and alternative energy in the residential sector, aiming to promote energy-saving house, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and drive the country towards a low-carbon society.

On March 30, 2022, Mr. Kulit Sombatsiri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on “The Promotion of Energy Conservation and Alternative Energy in Residential Sector” between Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), EGAT, Home Builder Association, Siam Cement Group (SCG), and Kasikornbank (KBank), in the Home Builder Focus 2022, at IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center. Mr. Suttipong Chalermkiat, EGAT Assistant Governor – Sustainability Management, is the MOU signee of EGAT.

Chairman of the EGAT Board of Directors said that the government has placed importance on residences and has provided support in all aspects to raise the quality of life for the people. Especially for energy conservation, the designing, house-plan making, and material selection can save energy and mitigate the global warming impact. So, house building companies play a vital role to drive energy saving in the real estate sector.

EGAT Assistant Governor – Sustainability Management added that EGAT has been promoting energy and environment conservation for over 30 years through the 3E Strategy. For E1 – Energy Saving Equipment, EGAT has carried the project of No.5 energy-saving label with 22 products. For E2 – Energy Saving Building, under the project of No. 5 houses and buildings since 2017, EGAT has evaluated and certified over 5,000 No. 5 houses, which can help reduce the energy consumption of eight million kWh per year and the carbon dioxide emissions of 3,800 tons per year. Lastly, E3 – Energy Saving Habit has been implemented through the Green Classroom Project. Under this cooperation, EGAT will give some advice as well as evaluate and certify house plans in accordance with No. 5 project criteria, coupled with sharing knowledge and organizing related campaigns.

This MOU will last two years. It will promote the energy conservation and deployment of alternative energy in the residential sector, knowledge sharing on residential innovation and energy-saving houses, and investment funding to companies and those interested in the energy-saving house. This cooperation between private and public sectors will contribute to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and drive the county towards a low carbon society.
