14 July 2021

EGAT responded to the policy of the Ministry of Energy by cooperating with the Provincial Energy Office and Chulalongkorn University to solve the PM2.5 problem and provide clean air to Thai people, and are hurrying to install sensors for all 76 provinces nationwide by this October. Moreover, the data will be used with the Sensor for All application so that everyone can monitor air quality in real time covering a wider area in order to stay alert and plan daily life 24 hours a day.

Mr. Charan Khumngeon, EGAT Assistant Governor – Corporate Strategy revealed that EGAT has coordinated with the Provincial Energy Office of 76 provinces and Chulalongkorn University to quickly install sensors under the Sensor for All Application Development Project. EGAT has cooperated with Chulalongkorn University and allies to cover every province by this October in accordance with the policy of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy initiated during the Ministry of Energy’s executive meeting on June 28, 2021. The objective is to expand the use of the application widely, which will help drive the nation to become carbon neutral in the future.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy has permitted the installation of three more sensors in each of the 76 provinces totaling 228 sensors, which are aimed to be installed in the areas of power plants or large factories, traffic intersections or heavy traffic roads, and provincial tourist attractions. EGAT will support the budget of sensor devices, sim cards, and sensor maintenance during the first three years, and will also support the sensor installation in target areas aforementioned. If it is in the community area, a display billboard for viewing air quality data will also be included to give more information to the people in addition to the Sensor for All application.

From 2020 until the present, EGAT has cooperated with Chulalongkorn University and allies in the development of the application and the installation of around 200 sensors nationwide. In the future, EGAT is also preparing to expand the cooperation network on air quality data with other platforms to become Big Data which will appear in the Sensor for All application for the maximum benefit of the users.

Currently, the public can monitor the air quality report in real time 24 hours a day through the Sensor for All application by downloading on the App Store and Play Store, and on the website https://sensorforall.eng.chula.ac.th/ to stay alert and plan a daily life that suits the air quality for a sustainably healthier and better quality of life.
