Water quality

Apart from the wastewater from the cooling tower, all wastewater which has been treated will be collected in the cesspool for inspection of quality to be within the standard limit. The water will be used in the power plant area such as plant watering without releasing into the Chao Phraya River. For the wastewater from the cooling tower, the temperature will be controlled to be not exceeding 2 ˚C compared to the water in the Chao Phraya River.

Air quality

Dry Low NO_x Burner is installed to control nitrogen oxide during the electricity generation to be not exceeding 96 million PPM. The continuous emission monitoring system is installed to monitor the compound which has environmental impact such as nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide and report the result to the Pollution Control Department. If it is found that the value is higher than the standard limit, correction will be made immediately. The result of the measurement is displayed on the screen at the entrance of North Bangkok Power Plant and on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi road.

Noise

The machinery which is the source of noise such as gas turbine and steam turbine is enclosed in the walls made of acoustic material and provided with silencer to reduce the noise of steam. Warning notices are provided for the noisy area. Continued measurement of noise in the power plant and around the power plant has been conducted.

Waste

Waste from the electricity generation process such as deteriorated air filters, lubricating oil for machinery, and used resin from the production process of demineralized water will be disposed by authorized company for waste disposal. Removal of hazardous waste from the power plant is reported for information of the Department of Industrial Works by electronics means. Garbage is collected by the General Service of EGAT Headquarters for disposal at the garbage dump of Bang Kruai Municipality.

Community Development Fund

Community Development Fund is raised by the approval of the Cabinet in accordance with the proposal of National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) in order to develop the quality of life of community in the radius of 5 km from the power plant which has the capacity larger than 5,000 million kWh. The fund is derived from the electricity sale revenue and used in the occupational promotion, support of education, religion, culture and tradition, sports, and entertainment.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Being a power plant in the heart of the city, North Bangkok Power Plant has a close relations with community around the power plant and has organized activities with their participation continuously. Example of the projects is the project of community development volunteers which involves the team of volunteers consisting of youth, local people, and EGAT employees. The activity focuses on painting of sports ground and equipment in the playground. Another project is “Learning Youth” which introduces the youth to local philosophers in the nearby community to learn about local traditional way of life such as organic rice planting and handicraft making. The other project is “Youth and Rivers” which supports the youth for preparation of the scientific projects leading to the understanding of environmental conservation.
