Two big organizations, OVEC and EGAT, have embraced the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy to implement Biological Way of Life for Sustainable Development Project for 20 continuous years, yielding sustainable benefits for the society and communities nationwide.

On January 23, 2024, Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) organized a cooperative agreement signing ceremony and presented awards for the Biological Way of Life for Sustainable Development Project under the theme “20 Years of Biological Way of Life, Yielding Sustainable Benefits for Communities” at EGAT Headquarters, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province. The ceremony was chaired by Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukphasuk, Privy Councilor, and attended by Flying Officer Somporn Pandam, Deputy Secretary General of Vocational Education Commission; Mr. Methawat Phongradaphirom, EGAT Assistant Governor – Corporate Strategy; executives; and distinguished guests.

The agreement which will last from 2024 to 2028 will further integrate Biological Way of Life for Sustainable Development Project with Khok Nong Na Model to improve the quality of life for communities. It includes enhancing water management practices, adjusting activities to suit the context of each area, supporting the use of various biological substances, expanding the project’s success to communities, and promoting the development of local products.

Since 2003, OVEC and EGAT have collaborated on Biological Way of Life for Sustainable Development Project by embracing the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. The project disseminates knowledge and understanding on the coexistence between nature and humans, the use of natural resources to generate income to promote pollutant-free practices and debt avoidance, and environmental conservation. The project has been implemented with 110 institutions under OVEC and its success will be expanded through teachers, students, schools, and communities around the institutions. Moreover, it promotes inventions and innovations and supports group cohesion to develop local products and registration of community enterprises.

During the event, there was also an awarding ceremony for inventions under Biological Way of Life for Sustainable Development Project during 2020-2022, totaling 104 awards and an exhibition showcasing awarded inventions and innovations created by institutions and communities.

For 20 years, the project has created educational personnel and over 360 locals have adopted the project with outstanding results. Moreover, it has led to 474 Biological Way of Life model communities as well as 18 community enterprises or 2,346 households. There are 22 schools gaining the knowledge from the institutions and yielding outstanding benefits, which led to 300 research projects and inventions.
