3 April 2024

TPQI, in collaboration with KMUTT and EGAT, is preparing to certify professional standards in the fields of energy and renewable energy, focusing on electrical energy from solar cells and wind power generation system. The aim is to elevate personnel capabilities to meet standards, instill confidence in entrepreneurs, and achieve international recognition.

On April 2, 2024 Ms. Phana Supavakul, Assistant Governor – Organization Development and Acting Deputy Governor – Administration of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) chaired the opening ceremony of professional standards in the fields of energy and renewable energy, focusing on electrical energy from solar cells and wind power generation system. The ceremony was also attended by Ms. Jullada Meejul, Director General of Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (Public Organization) (TPQI); Asst. Prof. Dr. Kuskana Kubaha, Dean of School of Energy, Environment and Materials, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT); alliances; and personnel from electricity and renewable energy industries at the Auditorium, EGAT 50th Anniversary Building, EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province.

Ms. Phana Supavakul, EGAT Assistant Governor – Organization Development, said that EGAT has a direction for human resource development and competency certification based on professional standards in alignment with EGAT’s core missions. Approved by TPQI, EGAT opened a competency certification center in 2021 with the aim to assess and certify personnel’s capabilities in the fields of energy and renewable energy. Initially, there were 3 professional branches, 33 occupations, and 59 qualification levels certified for EGAT employees and the general public, including electricity generation system, hydropower generation, and electricity transmission system with over 1,000 individuals certified. In 2024, EGAT is preparing to certify 2 additional branches: electrical energy from solar cells (3 occupations, 4 qualification levels) and wind power generation system (2 occupations, 2 qualification levels). This covers the professional certification service of 5 branches, 38 occupations, and 65 qualification levels in the fields of energy and renewable energy.

It is a significant step to elevate personnel capabilities in electricity and renewable energy industries, aiming to promote energy security in the transition era and drive the country toward Carbon Neutrality. It also complies with the policy to upgrade the workforce, which leads to quality employment opportunities and fosters skills and expertise to meet the needs of entrepreneurs with international recognition. Moreover, it supports renewable energy development policy aimed at promoting efficient use of renewable energy in the country.

The certification of professional standards can guarantee skills and expertise, enhance competitiveness, and increase the opportunities to work with entrepreneurs both in Thailand and abroad. Presently, EGAT has 5 competency assessment centers, namely 1) Bang Kruai Center at EGAT Headquarters, Nonthaburi Province, 2) Sai Noi Center at Sai Noi Office, Nonthaburi Province, 3) Bang Pakong Center, Chachoengsao Province, 4) Mae Moh Center, Lampang Province, and 5) Tha Thung Na Center, Kanchanaburi Province.
